What Happens Next?

After we send your digital images to the lab, a series of clear aligner trays are made and returned to our office. When you come back in, we’ll help you put in your first set of trays and show you how to care for them. An Invisalign case can help protect your aligners while you eat and brush your teeth.

The Invisalign process is fairly simple once you have your aligners:

  • You may also need IPR—polishing between teeth— this helps create more space in the mouth to straighten crowded teeth.
  • You’ll wear each set of aligners for a certain amount of time, usually 1 week, then you toss out the old and start wearing the next set of aligners.
  • Take your trays out when you eat or brush your teeth. When you brush your teeth, you should also clean out your clear braces with a toothbrush or with Invisalign cleaner.
  • You’ll come into our office occasionally so we can make sure your braces are working properly. This is important to ensure the best possible results.
  • Once your treatment is finished, we’ll create a retainer for you. This is worn all the time at first, and then at night while sleeping.

How Long Does Invisalign® Take?

The treatment time for Invisalign braces depends on your personal situation. The average time is 12–18 months in many offices.
